Lindsey Vonn talks about Ski World Cup Bansko'2009
Lindsey Vonn fighting for more at Bansko.
In her second training run, World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn lost her balance in the upper part of the run and fell on her right side after losing a ski. After slipping a few seconds on the hard course, the double World Champion remained briefly on her back in the snow prior standing-up again with the help of officials. She managed to slowly ski down to the finish area afterwards.
“She feels strong pains at her lower back but her right hand seems fine, we will check again everything this afternoon,” explained her husband Thomas Vonn, who travels with Lindsey on the World Cup tour.
Everybody here hopes Lindsey will recover well enough to compete in tomorrow’s race with fair chances for another good result.
It’s the second time since cutting her right thumb with a beheaded bottle of Champagne at Val d’Isère that Vonn suffers a bad spill while skiing. The first one happened in Val d’Isère a few days after her injury during her second slalom run. Fortunately her hand protected by a cast was not more severely injured that day.
Last weekend, the skier from Minnesota confirmed her determination reaching three times in a row the podium at Tarvisio, in Italy, where she also celebrated her 19th World Cup win on Sunday at the end of a Super-G.
Despite her strong lead of nearly three hundred points on her friend Maria Riesch in the Overall standings, Vonn is fighting for more wins here as she also hopes to nail the downhill and Super-G World Cups titles prior travelling to Sweden in ten days for the World Cup Finals.
